WA Environmental Protection Act Reform – Bill tabled

Government’s intent to reform the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) (EP Act) has been formalised with the tabling of the Environmental Protection Amendment Bill 2020 (WA) (Bill) on 16 April 2020. WA DWER’s new industry guide to licensing and changes for critical containment infrastructure

Last month DWER released its ‘Guideline: Industry Regulation Guide to Licensing’ (Guideline) following a 12 month stakeholder consultation process.

As parts of the Guideline represent a substantial change in administrative approach, it is intended to be implemented on a staged basis. Mandatory application to some premises and applications will commence on 1 October 2019. Continue reading

WA EPA consultation on greenhouse gas guidance

The Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) commenced consultation last week on the greenhouse gas guidance for assessing proposals likely to have a significant impact on the environment under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA).

The guidance being consulted on is exactly the same as that initially released and withdrawn in March 2019, being the Environmental Factor Guideline (Air) – Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Technical Guidance – Mitigating Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
